The Tarnished Daughter's Club

The Tarnished Daughter's Club

A Poem by RachelWroteIt

There’s a sad and secret club

That exists in plain sight of the world-

And its members run in the millions,

Stretching back centuries-

It’s the Tarnished Daughter’s Club,

For every golden boy, every Adonis,

Every treasured and coveted son,

There is a tarnished daughter,

Cast off in the corner.

For no other reason than that-

Sons are golden, girls are tin.

Tin girls, all members of the Tarnished Daughter’s Club.

And this coven of rejects,

Evicted for something they never chose,

They still grow in the darkness.

They grow and a bitter sap tinges their stalks.

They grow, but they’re crooked, and don’t stand up tall.

They grow like weeds between cobblestones,

Untended and unwanted, but still, they grow.

The members of the Tarnished Daughter’s Club.

They grow and develop a patina of self-protection.

They grow, and resentment eats little holes in them like rust.

They grow and they grow,

In the shadows of the favored.

The members of the Tarnished Daughter’s Club.

And no one sees what they do.

No one hears what they say.

And what an intoxicating freedom it gives

No one cares, no one cares, no one cares-

No one sees, no one knows "

No one cares where they go,

The members of the Tarnished Daughter’s Club.

And they’re strivers and seekers,

And fighters and keepers,

They’re fierce protectors, and callous rejectors,

Knowers and showers and liars and criers,

The members of the Tarnished Daughter’s Club

And they’re watching and waiting,

Because the world will be theirs for the taking "

These accomplished and polished

And harder than iron

Members of the Tarnished Daughter’s Club.

And wise men would fear them- if only there were some.

            The Daughters are coming.

And they will spare no one.

Bitterness makes for hard revenge. Thanks for the warning.
