Lift Off

Lift Off

A Story by Rachel Kristen S. Tale
"

This is a piece of a longer story I'm writing involving terrorism and suspense

"

"When are we taking off?" Jane said.

"I don't know, we should have taken off an hour ago" replied Robert.

The overhead speakers crackled and began to broadcast. "Greetings, this is your captain speaking. We're having some mechanical issues that we're resolving as we speak. Please remain  calm the flight should resume shortly.

Finally, the 747 lurched forward on the runway.  The passengers cheered the progress. As the jet angled upward and pressed the passengers into their seats, everyone let out sighs relief. Schedules can finally resume again. Thoughts of getting home and next day plans are back on track. The clocks of life resumed their function.

Then suddenly the jumbo jet surges forward and is then leaping off the run way into the sky.The atmosphere of applause quickly transforms to fear and confusion as their routine airline liftoff seems to transform into a rocket launch.

In contest with the loud whining of the 4 turbine engines, a man spoke through the speakers with a thick African accent. "Your flight captain will no longer be controlling your flight. My name is Abdul Sandhili.  And we will be taking this jet. You will not be returning home."
