New Knowledge

New Knowledge

A Poem by Rachel_Biggs

A deep distance

between the two of us.

It’s not your fault,

Oh no,

It never was.

It never will be.

Lay the burden on me,

All the sorrow you’ve carried around.

So long since we smiled,

Together or alone.

But we have never been unhappy,

on these rocks.

Unsteady, unreliable,

Always.

Choose the answer,

Extremely carefully.

Leave it all to me.

Don’t make me choose.

Please.

I don’t love you anymore.

We never thought about the future,

Look what it has cost.

This is the end.

I thought it would be different,

but I guess I was wrong.

This time,

I will leave you,

before you hurt me worse.

It is your fault.

It always was.

I know that now,

I wish I knew it then.

When everything was golden,

and beautiful.

Beauty fades,

Everything ages,

and grows twisted.

Nothing stays healthy forever.

Things get sick,

and die.

This is my new knowledge.

Knowledge to share.

It will save others

and destroy us.

It is too late.
