We Breathe

We Breathe

A Poem by Rachel Joyful

It's the fact that we can't stand to be the same,
it's the insanity that makes us go against the grain.
We breathe in,
we breathe out,
but all we ever hear is the scream,
is the shout.
And when my heart stops beating,
it's then that I start breathing, believing.
We breathe in,
we breathe out,
but all I ever feel is beating,
the bleeding in the dark,
the darkest part of my heart.
I just want to feel the reality,
tell me it wasn't that that caused my fatility.
We breathe in,
we breathe out.
A scream,
a shout,
a cry,
a whisper,
but do we ever listen?
Listen.
Do we hear the screams of our hearts,
the sharpness of the dark,
do we listen, do we hear,
do we even ever hear?
It's the fact that we can't stand to be the same,
it's the insanity that makes us go against the grain
