Unjust

Unjust

A Poem by Rachel Joyful

She slips into the room through the back door,

She fidgets but makes it into a seat.

People in front of her turn and stare,

she swallows her fear and acts like she doesn’t care.

But she can see the judgement in their eyes,

and she fears the tears forming in her own eyes.

They turn around with their noses in the air,

she looks around and feels the uneasiness in the atmosphere.

She closes her eyes and wills herself not to cry.

The room is dark but it fills up once again with light,

another girl walks in and has a cheerful grin,

She walks passed and the people turn around,

but they left their judgement on the ground.

Their approval shows in their bright smiles directed at the new one,

but they turn around once again and frown at her.

She sinks into her seat and watches with pain filled eyes,

she looks at the screen that makes the room lighter.

Advertisements buzz but she feels like the bee,

a bother, not a mystery.

She gets up and walks out of the room,

and everyone turns around and stares at her,

Her hair is frizzy, greezy the same.

Her clothes are too big and too old, covered with dirt and holes.

They lack approval because she doesn’t fit their standards,

But all she ever wanted was to just exist.
