On and On the Music Plays

On and On the Music Plays

A Poem by Rachel Joyful

On and on the music plays,

on and on all throughout the day.

She closes her eyes and just manages not to cry,

she feels the tears, and she wonders why,

but the shame of her name rings in her head,

so she pushes back the pain,

and just pretends like she's not offended,

as if the words they said didn't mean a thing,

as if their words didn't break her heart,

as if they weren't some actual truth to the lies they spread.

On and on the music plays,

it dies down, but it remains.

On and on the music plays.

She opens her eyes and they are all gone.

They left her in the moment,

they left her in the pain,

they left her in the rain.

On and on the music plays,

here we sit,

here we play.

On and on the music plays.

She cries now because they are gone.

She tightens her fists and thrust them into the wall,

she screams on and on,

but no one even hears her cries.

She screams and screams,

she throws herself into the corner, and hits her head against the wall.

Why did they leave me?!

Why did they go?!

Don't they ever know,

how much I need someone to care,

someone to be there?!
On and on the music plays,

as she whimpers softly, throughout the day.

On and on the music plays.

She barely made it today,

crawling out of bed way past 10 p.m.

She over eats,

She cries and cries,

but honestly hopes to die.

She looks into the mirror she sees,

and her heart is broken instantly.

On and on the music plays,

on and on throughout the day.
