Sleep

Sleep

A Poem by Rachael Lea

Sleep? Something about this word sounds familiar

The more I try to pull it up my thoughts become unfamiliar

I think I recollect something with that in the past

Can you describe it to me, please be fast fast fast

There’s too much to do in this hectic life of mine

You have to hurry more tasks on my list I must assign

You say you lay down?? Where do you find the time

There’s too much to be done as the clock chimes

Huh you say things flash before you eyes, Dreams?

I get that without sleep all kinds of different schemes

Come on Come on what else have you got for me

Don’t expect me to buy into this thing sleep so easy

Pajama’s you say? Well I wear those everyday anyway

Hold up did you just say what I think you said?

Didn’t you know there’s other things to do with your bed?

No bloodshot eyes and a new found energy?

Say would you say it can keep up with me?

Huh yes?? How about make up for hours lost?

What would you say is the actual and marginal cost

Yup yup wait did you say I can die with no sleep

Hold on after these chores into my bed I’ll leap!

Very well done. For me, it is a twisted tale of an over active mind. I get to sleep, but it's not something I can count on daily. Even if I did not have all those things to do, my mind in the middle of the night would start turning and creating a mission for me. My goal is seven, I've accepted five, but boy there are a lot of 3's and 4's. See you stirred my mind with your lovely words. Great job fellow active traveler. :)

Haha!!! Loved the humour you have used here to let the reader know what time means you...Life has no time for sleep with lots of work to do...It reminded of a real story of a man who lived 83yrs without any sleep from the age of 36 because of an accident....Many famous people like Thomas Alva Edison used to sleep only 2hrs a day working 22hrs and stayed fit all their life.....Such an beautiful work my frnd....God bless you....

sleep is one of those things we wish we could do without ,just to have more hours in a day. Unfortunately we gotta sleep to be healthy.GREAT PIECE

I love your poem but cannot imagine this life...I am a meanderer and smeller of roses, myself.

This is awesome. I love the humour within, which is probably more exasperation from your side of the pillow, so to speak :)
Yes, those dreams and what you hint at for other uses of bed time is flittingly thought of and discarded as a luxury, but I do hope you find the time for a little play time in bed. I know I would be lost without it. I love playing xbox from underneath the sheets :)
Love this write. It has all the hecticness (sorry, I make up words when I can't find a thesaurus) of a frantic life, but reads like it had so much thought and care taken over it. Very well done.

you did a great job.
A tinge of "manic" - and a fair bit of reality for quite a few as well.
