All the Things We'll Never Know

All the Things We'll Never Know

A Poem by Rachael Lea

I’ll never forget the first day that I saw you

You were wild and crazy with hair to your rear

And though you weren’t too much to look at really

You carried this presence about you drawing me near

I knew I love you then, immediately accepting of all that is you

We joked and partied until the sun came up, becoming a true friend

The connection only growing stronger each time afterwar4ds

My world turned upside down, while worried if we too would end

Each time I find I am around you I have to fight for control

Knowlegable in what would happen if we were to give it a go

The stars just didn’t align for us to gis it our all

And haunted now am I, of all we do not know

Was it really supposed to be us 50 years down the road

Instead of fighting to barely exisit and dodging constant blows

We’ve made mistakes a plenty, were humble beyond compare

There are many things that we regret as guilty pleasures fill our lives

We live life the best we can with a knowledge that fills the air

Though one thing well never know is as a couple woud we have survived

We were never given that chance at love though one thought I hold true

Is everything of us I will never come close to knowing

The haunting one is the ignorance of what it would have been like to be with you

Would you have been accepting of my faults, would our love be true

Would you have embraced your inner you and helped me to embrace mine too

Would we we have been happy in a world of our won, or would we have failed

Would we, could we, the list going on and on as I sit and construe

For all the things will never know, if I was with you

This is so hauntingly sorrowful, yet intricately beautiful, the thoughts that spun all these would haves, could haves into such a beautiful tapestry of words and took us all on a very relatable journey through the minefield of the mind. Superb.
