Guilty Pleasures

Guilty Pleasures

A Poem by Rachael Lea

Have you ever felt so guilty
for feeling so high
for talking to someone
and later asking why
you are in a relationship
you have been for a while
but you find someone else
whose number you long to dial
You want to be happy again
though it truly hurts to admit
you long for someone else
and you'd like to call it quits
but you look at your past
and you cant bring yourself to leave
What if this is as good as it gets
After all your worthless you believe
So you live your life day to day
While your inner demons you fight
You look for ways to be happy
Ways to make you feel bright
You feel so guilty for this pleasure
Even though it's nothing really bad
You find the ways to fill the gap
and wonder why you're so sad
It's a fight against your morals
You tug every which way
Wanting happiness and companionship
Is this where you should stay

I think a lot of people can relate to this situation of feeling unloved in a relationship that wouldn't have been, had you known what you know now. It is such a difficult and conflicting time to have your emotions split between what is and what could be. Do you walk away and start afresh or stay where you don't want to be. Difficult and confusing choice and impossible to give advice, other than to say the heart wants what it wants and no one should live in shadow.
Beautifully captured Rachael. Spoken in softly sighed whispers, dreamlike.

This really captured the feeling of the end of a relationship. The relationship is safety and happy memories even though it has faded to nothing there is still the past. And the past is always there so they're struggling to make the decision to stay or go and the poem represented that perfectly. It's something that almost everyone can relate to. Great work!
