Cheers

Cheers

A Poem by Rachael Lea

Harmful words lead to painstaking tears

Harmful thoughts lead to drinking too many beers

The thought of the happiness in fairytales

Slowly drowns away after the third or fourth cocktail

The fights cause the wonder of why I am here

Dragging on my days as though I’m crystal clear

The walls are crumbling due to the words you say

And in the end I am the one who’ll pay

The games you play with your words

Cause me to see how much you are absurd

The pain you’ve brought me all these years

Causes the lift of my glass for more and more cheers

As my last love faded into the darkness I found myself doing the same. It's not the solution or the best Idea, but self medication is the name of the game. And I can play it well which is not good so I try to write and stay focused away from that hell. Not sure where reality and poetic license falls in this piece, but well done.

I remember the feeling well. Some see through rose tinted spectacles, but I guess the opposite is true of seeing life through the bottom of a glass and the emotions it brings to the surface. I always found drink similar to having regret on tap. I feel that within your words here, Reality seen through a haze of a melancholy in liquid form. I felt this.

Harmful and hateful words are one of the deadliest weapons one can use against another. The pain never seems to go away. I like this one, I like the message stated. Your anger has driven me to drink but in the end it will only be me who pays the price. Great writing.
