Last Traces of Smoke

Last Traces of Smoke

A Poem by Rachael

The flames roared as they spread,
Burning everything in it's destructive path,
Unwavering and as strong as ever,
It continued.

I could barely breathe,
The air was thick and surrounding,
The heat encircled around me,
Beating senselessly like a drum.

My lungs filled with dense smoke,
I chocked and spluttered,
Scrambling for purchase of oxygen,
Hoping there was still some hiding nearby.

Obscene smells infused my nose,
I wanted to pinch it shut,
But I couldn't take control of my body,
All of this was too much for me.

My eyelids felt heavy,
And collapsed unwillingly,
Everything was blank, all my senses cut out,
And that was the last trace of smoke.
