Chapter 3: Blood Bath Meg left the loft and head towards the stairs. Carey and I followed slowly after her. She jogged down the stairs in front of the door. She turned to Carey and I and said "Are you ready?" "Yes. I guess so." I replied with a gulp. Her hand reached for the door. Right when she was ready to grab the handle her hand started shaking in fear. She pulled her hand back and brushed back her hair. She took in a deep breath and forced her hand at the door. she quickly yanked the door open. She walked down the steps of her front porch and stood in the driveway. She contained her balance by leaning on their car. Carey was still in the door way as I walked down the steps. "Its okay sweetie. Come out." I said as I reached my hand out for her. She stepped out of the house and shut the door behinde her. She slowly reached forward and tightly gripped my hand. I guided her down the steps. I knelt down on my knees with my back facing her. "Hope on. I can cary you there." I said as she jumped on my back. I slowly stood up and walked forward. Meg was waiting for us on the sidewalk. We walked next to her and stared at the world around us. People screaming. People dying. The dead rising. The infection spreading. I closed my eyes tight and tried to remember what the world was like before this. Everyone was happy and alive. Neighbors would help each other with anything they could. Friends were as close as they could be always being there for each other. No one was getting a worse injury than a scrape. Then I opened my eyes to see what the world has come to. Everyone is scared and dying. Neighbors are turning their backs on each other just to save there own lives. People were dying from blood loss and zombie bites. One thing hasen't still changed. The friends. The really close ones. They are helping each other and making sure one another is protected. Friends have been risking their lives for each other. I plan to risk my life to make sure Meg and Carey are ok and safe. And I know Meg is protecting Carey and I and making sure we are safe. Friends are important and I hope everyone has a few good ones like I do. I looked over at Meg. She was looking down at her feet and kicking rocks in the curb. I guess she was trying not to pay attention to all the damage that was happening here. She started walking down the sidewalk again. She slowed down for a second and looked over her shoulder at me. "We gotta make it there." She said as she picked her speed back up. I started jogging for a minute to catch up to her. Once we were side by side I slowed down. We turned a corner on the left and walked straight for awhile. then we crossed the street to our school. The doors were always open. Meg pressed her arms into the door handle and held it open for me. I put Carey back on her feet. "Thanks." I said as I walked into the school. "Yeah." The school was dark. There wasn't too many windows there. We turned on some lights and walked down the hallway. We were about ready to walk into the cafeteria when Meg stopped. I tried walking infront of her but she put her arm out and pushed me back. "Shh" She said as I took a few steps backwards. I stopped and listened. We heard some noise in the cafeteria and possible talking. I crawled under her arm that was still up and walked in the cafeteria. I slowly steped further and further in. I stopped and gasped when I heard one of the chairs stacked on a table fall over. I stop for aminute and listened. "Anthony. There zombies! Get your gun out dude!" I heard a voice say. Then I heard something get up and walk towards me. It was so dark that I couldn't see a thing! I backed up slowly against a wall. I felt up and down the wall till my fingers found a light switch. The person was right in front of me when I flicked the light on. I was completely pressed against the wall holding my breath. The guy standing there was about ready to shoot when he realized we weren't zombies. He lowered his gun and stepped back. He looked at me for a minute as if he recognized me. I stopped and calmed myself down. "Oh my gosh! Zoey?!" The boy said as I stood there looking at him. I stepped away from the wall and looked straight into his eyes. It was my close friend Anthony from school. "Yeah its me." I said as I finally started breathing again. "Liam, its okay they aren't zombies you can come out now." Anthony said as Liam crawled out from under a table and stood up. He stood there starring at us for a minute then he walked forward and put his elbow on Anthony's shoulder. Anthony Introduced me to Liam and I introduced Meg and Carey to them. Meg explained our plan about going to the forrest with them and they decided to join us. I took my phone out of my back pocket and called Lonnie. "Hey Lonnie, Its Zoey. Can you pick me and four others up from the school? We have a plan. You can join if you'd like." "Yeah. Okay. Whatever. I'll be there in like ten minutes so be patient!" "Okay we'll try!" I hung up the phone and put it back in my back pocket. "She'll be here soon." I told the group. I turned and exited the cafeteria in to the hallway. I walked all the way down the hallway as the group sllowly follwed behind. I pushed and leaned into the stubborn door till it finally opened. I stood there holding it open till the group exited the building. I shut it and walked down the steps. We all walke dup to the curb and sat there waiting for Lonnie to show up we looked all around us. Before there was always screaming and death noises. Now its just nothingness. Everyone who was in my neighborhood was either dead on the street taking in the infection or already a zombie. there was no zombies around at the time. Only dead people. A lot of them all over the streets. The curbs and streets were flooded with blood. Guts and brains were spilled out of the dead. It was a disturbing sight to see. I closed my eyes and put my head in my palms. I tried to picture what the people were like before but I couldn't look past the blood and gore. Across the street I saw a white van speeding up to the curb. Me and the group all stood up and stepped back as she pulled on the curb. There was six other people in the van beside her. A boy with soft blonde hair yanked the van door open he quicklky hopped out and hugged me. It was my late brothers best friend, Ross. "I'm so sorry Zoey. I miss him too." "Yeah... It happens." I said as I hugged him back. He introduced us to everyone in the van and I introduced them to my group. We all got in the van. Lonnie sat in the drivers seat and her brother Tyler sat shot-gun. In the front row sat Tyler, Lance, and Meah. In the second row sat Katrina, Sarah and Meg. In the back row sat Anthony, Liam and me with Carey on my lap. Ross slammed the door and we headed towards the forrest.
