Addiction Villanelle

Addiction Villanelle

A Poem by Rac7hel
"

my first attempt at a villanelle

"
I'm higher than I've ever been before,
as pleasures and dependencies abound.
And never have I ever wanted more.

My youthful tendency is to explore,
and revel in the ecstasies I've found.
I'm higher than I've ever been before.

I check my reservations at the door--
and surely there's enough to go around--
though never have I ever wanted more.

The more I hear, the louder to ignore
the ringing and the nagging of the sound
that's higher than it's ever been before.

Sated, I surrender to discord,
collapse under the pressures that surround
and know I've never wanted so much more.

Straining to remain above the floor,
and clinging to the dragging on the ground--
I'm higher than I've ever been before.
But never have I ever wanted more.

i think the form works with the subject--it feels like ringing in my ears--the repetition.
