Introspective Sonnet

Introspective Sonnet

A Poem by Rac7hel

Feelings, images, music, words, and thoughts
Embody the life of an earlier version of me
Part of me wants to remember how I used to be
The part which is still tangled up in the same little knots.

I let myself slip and revert to a previous state
The lessons I’ve learned since the time are not here to advise
I see like a child again through my ignorant eyes
And solve my most difficult problems by letting them wait.

A simpler, happier me I doubt ever to find
Yet happiness fades with acknowledgement of my mistakes
To keep up my spirits I must do whatever it takes
Abandon the past and return to my uneasy mind.

Happier I may have been, before wisdom and care
But surely I’m better off not getting stuck back there.
