I chose the thief to give the impression that he's stealing the knife, as if to commit some sort of crime with it. I liked the liar telling him it was a fork because it illustrates how pointless it is to lie, especially in a situation like this. I don't know why that's the lie that the liar decided to say, but whatever. It sounded good to me ;) Glad you like it!

An interesting impression. Not sure what the thief has to do with it other than being a character in the poem. Perhaps instead of a thief, it could be a blind man or a dullard (someone that might not know it really is a knife). Still, I like the visual I get with this.
