Living The Addiction

Living The Addiction

A Poem by RabbiRebik
"

A description of addiction in general. A poem from my 2013 Published collection, Dancing Smoke on a Dark Street, available on Amazon.com

"
We have a contradiction
That one can't relieve.
It's called an addiction
Something we refuse to believe,

For many its a terrible deal
And something we wish to lose.
Yet it continues to seal
Our life down the path we cruise.

Time again we walk
Along the boards we stay.
Like ivory lines of chalk
Our addiction continues to delay.

A recipe for destruction
That our life can cook.
An era of dysfunction
No help from wherever we look.

This was a poem that I wrote, like many from the collection, about my ever-growing addiction to cigarettes.

Cigarettes, alcohol, heroine, the affection of others... regardless you wrote a good description of the path of addiction.

You manage to convey the message of addiction well. It's true that people that are addicted to harmful substances or behaviours find it hard to find help. The poem also rhymes quite well. It's got a good rhythm to it.
