Chap 2A Chapter by RTAfter a few more hours of random chit chat, I headed back to my house. Since it was right next door, it was quite convenient. I wasn't drunk, but I was feeling a little off. Van's party was still going with a few die hards.
I headed to the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. Carefully, I peeled up the band-aid to look at the mark left by the vampire's tooth. It was nearly healed. By the light of dawn, it would be gone. The joys of taking energy from others... Great healing time.
I drew a deep breath. My aura pulsed with the angry energy of the vampire. Since I had never taken energy from one, I had had no idea how it would be. It actually had made me feel a little ill. Dark beings' energy gave me the equivalent of indigestion. I needed to purify the energy if I didn't want to have energy burps and nausea. I frowned, thinking swiftly.
No sun yet. Hours away. Sunlight was great for cleansing. Moonlight was far weaker. And the moon wasn't full and bright. So what to do? The dark energy roiled within me. I went out onto my porch. Weak or not, moonlight would have to do. I breathed deeply, letting the pale moonbeams wash over me.
I felt the vampire's energy within me and I focused on it. Taking the moonlight, I let it trickle into the pulsing red energy that was trying to ball up in my aura. I pictured the red energy turning white. I concentrated on the energy calming. A wave of nausea washed over me as the vampire energy resisted.
"I thought I saw you," a voice said from off to my right.
I turned and studied the male form stepping out of the shadows between my house and Van's. In a moment I recognized his friend and co-worker Bobby. In the dark, I couldn't see his blue eyes or tell that his hair was actually blondish.
"Am I interrupting you?" he asked.
"No," I lied. The vampire's energy had only partially calmed down. I struggled not to let my aura bubble with burps.
Bobby came closer and smiled at me. "I always wondered how Van got to be so close to you," he said.
"We are neighbors," I replied simply.
"Close neighbors," he said with a half question in his tone.
I frowned at him, not liking the turn he was taking. I was about to tell him it was none of his business, when we heard a strange noise and a scream. We both bolted towards the scream. It had come from just past Van's house.
There was a crumpled form on the ground. I went over and knelt down next to a middle aged woman. Her hands were clutching her abdomen and blood was leaking out from beneath her fingers.
"Call 911," I told Bobby.
The woman tried to speak, but failed. A thought struck me. I had found a use for vampire energy. I put my hand over hers and concentrated. The extra energy bucked and roiled, then poured into the deep wound. Flowing from me, the taint faded from the energy and it began to heal the woman. Color started returning to her face. I could hear Bobby on the phone with 911 behind me. The woman was breathing easier and her eyes were losing the glassy look.
"He's out there," the woman whispered to me. "Be careful."
"Who is?" I asked.
She clutched at my hand. "He's a monster," she gasped.
Sirens wailed in the distance. Bobby knelt next to me, using the light off his cell phone to look at the injury. It was a ragged gash. What could have done it, I had no clue. Had I not healed part of it, she would surely have died. © 2015 RTReviews
