War

War

A Poem by Rosi S. Phillips

It's the stench
Stale piss
Mixed with s**t and vomit
Soaked into mud with rats scurrying to their feasts

The ripe scent of death and fear
Clinging to a soldier's
Dirty tattered uniform
With sweat pouring in rivers
Sticky with dirt and blood

As men gather for war
Prayers are whisped reverently
Mementos are clutched desperately

The disease of war
Has taken many a man's body and spirit
Some even,
their immortal soul
