ElegantA Poem by Rosi S. PhillipsA poem for my mother. She is not the traditional Rendition of elegance But in this modern age Of corrupt politicians And a failing economy She is a diamond in the ruff Long dark hair of chocolate A peach completion And thick rimmed glasses She sits in her cubicle One of the hive But without shoes Her bright red toes contrasting With her green stripped dress No one would mistake her for a model She is, by the law of nature, a mother Well rounded and heathy from children Her back sags from years of work and wear But she is elegant Always looking forward Planning for the good and the bad She is always surrounded by people Perhaps it is her effervescent personality Perhaps it is her happy disposition But she is a light to people Complex, creative, carefree, yet careful I am proud to say, she is my mother
