It was a Dark and Stormy Night...

It was a Dark and Stormy Night...

A Poem by Rosi S. Phillips

It's eyes were glass melted into the sockets
With flecks of gold dancing inside
Its teeth were sharp and long like knives
Its voice was butter rum over decade old steel
And when it touched me, my skin burned a thousand flames

It consumed much space, and made me feel small
It's height and girth, made me tilt my head, back, back
And when it moved, it prowled like a lion, letting out a warning
And when It said my name, a layering of voices came out

Nina, was not a name, it was now a branding
Layered with hidden meaning and measured threats
My name was to say you are mine, I own you till the day you die
With a smile that curved its mouth, and made my eyes bleed

My feet felt glued to the stone
My breathing measured, strained
My hair was all but standing straight up
My spine curved, with my lips drawn back to expose teeth hissing

I felt like an animal, dangerous and frightened
I wanted nothing more than to skin it and lay it down as a rug
It felt it, my hatred, my fear, and it bathed in my emotions
because... it had none

I feel a storm gathering, tearing at my perfect walls
A sensation of falling and claiming and something more
My nails are longer, my teeth sharper, and my vision clear
It is gone, no where to be found and I am laying in an alley soaked
