Five Years

Five Years

A Poem by Rosi S. Phillips
"

A complicated past with my father.

"

Patiently perfect

Sitting on a shelf expectantly

For the day you will find

All the cracks and scars

You've accidentally placed on me

Emotionally exhausted

Sitting on a bench expectantly

For the day you will see

All 1,000 papercuts

You've unconsciously sliced into me

Truthfully trust-less

Standing on my own sagely

For the day you know

All the love and hope

You've carelessly destroyed in me
