Summer blues

Summer blues

A Poem by R.M.C
"

Summer blues - the melancholy at the end of a summer romance.

"
Summertime blues wash over me,
Blurring all my memories of you
With the rhythmic waves of melancholy,
Adding to my doubt whether our love was true.
Now that the Summer is over, we've missed our chance -
It was destined to be a Summer romance -
But no matter how far it's in the past,
I still dream that that Summer could last.
I recall easy days and nights
Just spent in each others company;
It was so easy - never having fights -
Because I wanted you and you wanted me.
Days blurred together and time became meaningless,
And despite the fact that we were penniless
We had an amazing time together,
Each moment captured forever.
Too soon Summer came to an end -
Reality came crashing ashore,
Ending our relationship; can't pretend
That this didn't mean the closing of that door.
Though the Summertime blues may consume me,
In my minds eye, that Summer I see.

Author's Note

R.M.C
Rhyme scheme: stanzas alternate between abab and ccdd, but ending in a couplet ee. I have tried to structure the poem in relation to syllable count - the lines should increase then decrease the number of syllables (like a waves extending and then receding on a beach).

This really brings back memories I'd almost forgotten. I often used the word "melancholy" to describe the end of summer, becuz my young life changed drastically when it was time to go back to school. There was always some hot summer romance that ended, despite promises to keep in touch. I like the running analogy of waves going up & back, mimicking the flow of seasons, & of romantic involvements. Simple sentiments to express the purely physical pleasures of summer romance!

Great write man...

Took me back to a few summertime blues.
But isn't that the story of life
Where we dance
love under the stars at night
Times that are just she and you

then lookup at the same sky
the only change,
is her and time

We wish away our breath
Blow among the stars our last kiss
from our last breath
swear the pain in the chest is a point of death

for in moments that pass
we lived a memory we all wish could last

Such is the dreamers dream
So sings the crow upon the bust of pallas
Nevermore

Isn't it amazing how we can recall a summertime romance....a short-lived dalliance...years later? It's true, some relationships are not meant to last, but while they do, everything seems perfect. I could feel the waves on the shoreline, feel the romance....ahhhh....lovely. The rhyming is great. I enjoyed this one. Lydi**
