REAWAKENING

It’s not about you anymore.

I don’t know you.

I don’t know what your life is, I don’t know what your dreams are.

I don’t recognize any of it.

It’s about me

Wanting to remember the best time in my life

Which was you.

The you I knew.

The one who wanted to sing and make music and be in the spotlight.

The one who craved getting the attention I loved to give.

Not the one who lives in the mountains knitting sweaters

Hiking on 10 mile snow trails

And decorating Easter eggs with home-made non-toxic paint.

Is that your idea of fulfillment?

But when you’re here, when you come back

And return to your spot in the limelight

Our lives are the same.

We once again breathe the same air

Walk the same ground

Sing the same songs,

And nothing feels more right.

The time spent in between seeing you

Is just that.

In between time.  Filler.

A grey area betwixt the bursts of color and light that surround you

When you smile.

My senses are heightened.

I see and smell and taste all of life’s possibilities.

I write fervently

Trying to capture a thousand thoughts that swarm in my mind.

I haven’t written since I last saw you.

I awaken from hibernation.

You have awakened me.

How do you do that?

You are my idea of fulfillment.

Face to face, you become my memory of you.

And nothing else matters.

Nothing else has ever mattered.

Not past.  Not present.  Not future.

Right here.  Right now.

And in this moment

You are beautiful.

Just like I remember you.
