Taking Down Dishonest Residential Contracting in America 2012 ......A Story by RB RobertsThis article is especially formulated for you, as a private homeowner/homerenter who resides in the U.S. This is domestically specific since a lot goes on in this area not tolerated in other countriesRecently, a residential contractor was sentenced in Allegheny County, New York to 3-10 years in prison for targeting and ripping off a number of senior homeowners in that state[January 4, 2012] It all started, as reports convey, back in 2010. A residential contractor by the name of James Turkowski promised to complete home rehabilitation projects for a number of senior citizens of Allegheny County, New York after a major snow storm of that year. However, according to government documents and court records, Mr. Turkowski conned them, instead. Each of the victims reportedly credited to his account an undisclosed amount of money towards major exterior work on areas such as the siding, gutters, fascia boards, etc.... Unfortunately, after receiving the agreed on rate from them, according to the county's District Attorney's Office, he never returned to fulfill his end of the deal. He'd disappear. Of course, this isn't an isolated event ......not in America. This sort of thing happens throughout. Apparently, it occurs a bit more for us because of the high-leniency level of the legal system. Hence, it's not difficult to surmise that dishonest contractors, domestically, get away with offenses and a series of the same offenses, without being detected/ prosecuted, for a number of years. Seemingly, what's so tolerated and down-played here isn't treated with the same padded gloves elsewhere. Then again, we're starting to see a change in that trend, especially with convictions such as this. Needless to say, 2012 is off to a great start in this direction. So in keeping with that spirit, let's do our part in not letting any dishonest residential contractor even think of trying do us in. Take 'im, down! " Yeaaaaaah!" © 2012 RB Roberts |
