To My Beloved

To My Beloved

A Poem by RA Fernandez

To My Beloved

Twice deserted, twice returned

For you, my dear, my heart has yearned

And falter it may when the storm crashes in

A greater force brings me back to you from within

Though you send me back a diamond when I give

The heavens to you, there is no way I’d rather live.

The reward of this devotion which to you I bestow

Is purpose, a drive to look to the coming morrow.

Dare not tell me, my lady, to live for me alone.

That gives me no warmth; just feeds a heart of stone.

And though now may not be the perfect time

If only for you, the wait will be most sublime

While the sun rises past the cold of night,

This heart beats for thee, o' guiding light,

And if the cycle stops and resumes nevermore

I'll meet you again on the divine peaceful shore.

If ever, from this affection, I once more fall,

Need not worry, I need only to recall

That next to you, words are what I require

And that, these poems, you alone inspire.
