Chapter 1: Corruption

Chapter 1: Corruption

A Chapter by R. Jay

"Energy has always been everywhere, either visible or not. Even before light graced the universe with its radiance, energy existed in the form of darkness or dark energy. And once the Earth came into existence, its inhabitants the humans learned to tap into the ambient energies in the world and manipulate them", these were the words of Mr. William as he addressed his students who were in their final year at the academy. William had an interesting regal appearance. He was a tall light skinned man with a slim build. His face constantly maintained a vaunted expression. "You may all leave, except for you Glenn", William said, pointing at a young man in blue jeans, a red shirt, white sneakers and a black backpack. "Sir?", Glenn asked, curious as to why William called him.
An almost proud smile grew on William's face as he approached his prized student. "Glenn, you and I both know that you are my most talented pupil. This is your last year at the academy then you start your life! Your skill with energy is fantastic my boy! You are on your way to becoming one of our finest warriors along with your colleagues", William congratulated a chuckling Glenn. "Well I couldn't have done without a great teacher", Glenn smirked. After the brief discussion with his teacher, the confident youth left the academy class and soon found himself talking to his friends in the campus. "Hey Glenn! How's it goin' man?", Brian shouted, greeting his friend. Brian was a rather muscular brown skinned man with a cheerful demeanor. "I'm doing well Brian. What about you?", Glenn replied, firmly shaking his friend's hand. "Five stars man", Brian smiled. "Listen up dude, I've got some news for you. Tonight, the group and I are gonna go head into the general's house and listen to the war meeting they're keeping a secret from everyone. Wanna join?", Brian asked. After a few seconds of deciding, Glenn agreed, "Sure thing mate. I'll meet ya there"
Hours later, the Sun fled from the sky, leaving it in a state of darkness. And as the stars flickered across the sky, an enthusiastic Glenn met with his friends outside the general's house. It was quite late, the perfect time for such an event. "Hey Joana", Glenn winked with a whisper, greeting the beautiful and headstrong Joana. "Hey G", her response was brief due to their situation. "Good to see you made it Glenn", Brian and Jay said in unison. "Hey Jay, gonna use your speed tonight?", Brian smiled, "Of course man", Jay chuckled. After greeting each other, the group slithered into the general's house and soon they made it into the very large air vents. The air vents led them to the general's meeting room. As they hid in the vents, they quietly listened to meeting. "I wonder what General Charles is trying to keep a secret from the world", Glenn wondered.

Soon the meeting began with General Charles addressing his army's soldiers and some energy sages. "As you all know, there are five types of energy. Cosmic energy, magical energy, natural energy, light energy, and dark energy. We are all born with the ability to manipulate one of those types. But as history states, the first man on Earth with the ability to manipulate energy.. could manipulate all types of energy. His name was Dominus. He was the most powerful man to ever walk the face of the Earth. And as you know, he hid the secrets to manipulate all energy types in five legendary scrolls that he scattered across the different nations on Earth. To ensure the survival of our nation, we must invade the other nations and take the scrolls that we may all learn to manipulate all five types of energy and then we will use our superior power to eradicate all potential threats!", Charles announced with a power-hungry smirk. His words brought horror and shock to the ears of Glenn and the rest. "What the hell?!", they all thought, aware that Charles' plan for their nation's survival meant the destruction of all the other nations.
"I have to disagree with you there General Charles. Are you implying that we must destroy every other nation simply to ensure our survival and prosperity?", one of the energy sages spoke out, he too was horrified at Charles' plan. It was a tyrannical plan and the energy sage would have none of it. "I believe that my words were clear enough. I do not need to repeat myself", General Charles replied seriously. "Then I will take no part in this", the defiant energy sage took his stance, making it clear that he does not intend to take part in Charles' plan. The sage's words brought anger to the eyes of the determined general. "So you defy my will? Then I have no choice but to kill you!", Charles said, quickly firing a blue energy blast from his palm. The blast struck the energy sage in the heart, instantly killing him. As the energy sage collapsed on the ground, those present in the meeting were stunned while Glenn and his group remained shocked in silence. "He knew far too much. Those who know of this must be on board with my plan. I do need require any traitors", General Charles said, glaring at every single person in the meeting room. "Let's get out of here. We need to tell Mr. William about this", Glenn advised. With his group in agreement with the plan, they began to search for the exit in the air vents.
Accidentally bumping his head on the air vents, Brian had unintentionally alerted the general and his cronies of their presence. Or did he? "I doubt it's anyone Sir. It was probably just rats. Nothing more", General Charles' butler said, voicing his opinion on the general's suspicions. "You may be right", the general replied, turning his attention back to his accomplices. In the meantime, Glenn and his friends had left General Charles' house and quickly fled the scene. Once they were far enough, the group caught their breath. "Damn.. did you here that? The general's gone nuts!", Joana said, visibly alarmed. "We should tell Mr. William. He's the only one who'll believe us", Glenn suggested as the group agreed to his words. "But first we should all get some rest. We heard some really weird this night and we all need a rest", a calm Jay advised as the group nodded in agreement. "Great, we'll see each other tomorrow and tell Mr. William about this", Glenn said as the group parted ways, each going to their own home, still shaken by the shocking revelation they heard that night.

Great concept in getting back to the basics of energy and science! Good start for this chapter, but goes into too many charcters too quickly for my pace. I it would be cool to know more about this school at the very onset of this chapter.
