Dualism

Dualism

A Poem by QuothCorvid

Who am I
Embedded in monotony
I'm not who I thought I was going to be
Individualistic, self contained and self determined
Where is the women who is independent?
Enshrined with in my heart
Did she only exist inside my mind?
Push away the mist of longing and fantasy
I see her the shade of what could have been
Artisan, creator, inventor
Would I give up who I am to be her
Other, the good side, the evil side no just the other side
She is real, just buried
Crushed beneath the everyday
Can I combine her with who I am now
Coalesce she with me
Will I loose myself to her
She can liberate or confiscate

Very thought provoking piece here. Questions I think many of us have wondered about. Very nicely done.

This is a deeply introspective poem that kept my interest despite my being of the opposite gender. While i greatly appreciate the female perspective on this I think that men may also relate to this piece as this type of internal questioning is becoming more and more common. In my opinion, the sexes have been willfully separated from birth to fit gender specific expectations and roles and thus we all become sparated from our true selves and spend our designated leisure time trying desperately to find purpose in our lives.
In todays society, in the west at least, women have been granted 'equality' within a male dominated world, but from what i can see- a woman is only equal if they walk, talk and act like a man by striving for the same power and control that males have enjoyed for centuries.
I hope that we are in a transitional period wich will lead to more a more peaceful future where men and women can oversee, (not rule), the world equally and so compliment one another as we always should have, but the cynic in me doubts that the men in charge of the governments and corporations will allow us that peace. Their only interest seems to be functionalism and the dualism of existence appears a petty distraction to their profiteering and divisive governance!
Phew! That was a bit of an unintended rant...sorry- you struck a nerve with this one! Take care, spence

Hmm, tell me about the evil side. That side of human beings seems to cause more drama and be of intinite variety and interest. What sort of poems would Darth Vader write were he to show up here as 'Hi, I'm new!'
