Mirror Reflection

Mirror Reflection

A Poem by QuothCorvid

Cut down by the world,
You murder me with your expectations,
Must be faultless, blameless,
Never to be rudimentary, undeveloped or warped
I don’t want to be skinny, angular, bony, emaciated, gaunt, lank, lean, malnourished, rawboned, scrawny, skeletal, slender, spare, twiggy, undernourished
I just want to be me.
America is polluted
The world is defiled, tainted
Think, trust, understand, wait, watch despair and lose faith
In a world run by Models and McDonalds
To extremes
Cause and result
Depression suppression
Take the turn in the road
No Obsession
Change
Healthy, able, goals in life
Is there a cure?

I like this one as it has more bite than Dualism and hits some live issues that many will feel strongly about, for and against. Personally I am skinny and smug. But I also think the fashion business is profoundly evil in its intentions. Does it reflect or shape the way we are? I don't know. I also detest fast food burger joints as they represent laziness, slovenliness, grease of mind. You are right about extremes and America, to this outsider, does seem to be a place of extremes. The best way seems to be one of balance, individual and national. But then freesom allows people to find their own way, which billions have not had under other schemes. I'm banging on... Liked the rush of verbs in one or two lines and the notion of murderous expectations.

No-one want one of those scrawny models. Real woman have something to hold on to. I agree with your poem. We want perfection. But perfection is in the eyes of the beholder. A outstanding poem. Many strong points were made in the poem. The cure is to be real.
