My Hands Will Never Reach the Heavens

My Hands Will Never Reach the Heavens

A Poem by Sirajudin Matin

I felt my heart melting,
As it ran though my fingers
Like sand in an hour glass,
Dehydrated, for it failed at beating…
It didn’t have reason to try…
And I contemplated giving you what was left….

But then I saw the distance,
You became like a star in heaven’s sky.
Fiercely shinning down on me,
Every second-
Made the distance even more apparent.

I’m afraid,
Afraid that you’re to bright for me…
You’ve surpassed the seraphs-
And ascended to a deity…

And that…
I do not dare to touch.
For every thing my heart has grasped,
Has turned to dust…
I live like poison,
Killing those I’ve charmed…

But Divinity I cannot crush,
Your beauty is too eminent
I will not pull you from the skies…
I do not wish to put you out…
For if I did I’d lose myself…
