The Cold Comfort of Awaiting Nothingness

The Cold Comfort of Awaiting Nothingness

A Poem by Sirajudin Matin

I’m looking at you screaming your name,
Yet nothing can be heard,
I’m choking on my insides,
The blood running cold in my veins.
You stand before me but I cannot hold you,
I reach out my arms while you pull away!
Your face slowly fades,
I’m lost, left in the dark to crawl on this paradise now collapsed,
I want nothing more than to talk to you,
But you are no where to be found,
Running and searching,
I glance into the sky .
Wishing you would swoop down with your angel wings,
Just to pick me up and carry me off.
But I only get the cold comfort of nothingness
Where have you gone?
Why can’t I find you?
Did you leave me or were you taken from me?
My love still burning yet this time without you,
Will death never come on call!
These wrists bleed but my heart still pounds on,
Now I’ve finally given up,
You come to me holding me close,
Those bitter sweet tears flow from my eyes now,
Because just as I’ve found you I’m dying. . . .
