Reason and Excuse

Reason and Excuse

A Poem by QuiteOllie

Within reason of course,

But what reason? And what is a reason?

Ha!

A collaboration of words spun together to look so much prettier than they are,

Like flies held together in the spider’s web

They dance and look so elegant, so beautiful.

Before reality turns to face you and gives you an evil stare, ‘beware’ it says.

Look again.

The flies are just dead things

Hanging in the (what we call) silk,

Waiting (if waiting were to be assumed possible whilst dead) for their consumption.

Then all the pretty little reasons, that, when spoken, sound so feasible, create poison in the mind, they tear and rip at thoughts and ideas.

Originality turns to mush, and we remain as vegetables,

Accepting what we are told and taught, denying only what we are allowed to deny.

Ignoring the incomprehensible.

Deep, and original. A welcoming piece to exercise the brain. You spin your words in lovely fashion.

A thought-provoking poem! There are, indeed, reasons for everything. Whether it's good or bad depends on our viewpoint. The presence of the flies in her beautiful silk probably made the spider happy. Your observations were enjoyable and easy to read.
