It's Greek to Me

It's Greek to Me

A Poem by S
"

Poem for an assignment spring 2013 for my high school Brit lit class; inspired by a chapter in How to Read Literature Like a Professor. Note: I'm rather happy that I could rhyme Zeus & juice.

"
Oh Dionysus, Dionysus
You are a son of Zeus,
And lord of strong grape juice.
That toxin called wine
Is what makes you divine,
And being God of the Theatre
Aids in making drunken actors teeter
Across the stage in a stupor,
Which makes the act one big blooper.

Oh Dionysus, Dionysus
You have maenads and satyrs
At your beck and call.  You make haters
Of other gods for your flair,
Though they don't envy your father's affair.
After cheating on Hera with Semele,
The plot was planned and the deception was real.
Then he stole you away and into his thigh you went,
To be born on Mt. Pramnos and begin your ascent.
