Of Roses and Growing Walls

Of Roses and Growing Walls

A Poem by Alice Locke
"

A sonnet about a problem that is (unfortunately) currently inherent in my life.

"

Upon the grounds of two’s first meet, they build

By bricks of distant love, a rosy wall,

Driving further back as it grows ever tall,

Despite slight keyholes so hopefully drilled,

This wall must cut through their unknowing guild,

By the law of love and the love of law,

The union must always and always will fall:-

Lest courage is found and seized by the hilt.

Yet neither are willing, not she nor he,

To grab this sword as life slowly moves on,

They had their chance, but alas!-it has gone,

By wretched parting the two must now grieve,

As so begins our forlorn denouement:

Both quiet lovers and wall must now leave.

A very good sonnet. I like the flow of thoughts and the many strong statements that stood out.
"By the law of love and the love of law,
The union must always and always will fall:- "
It is sad when the ending is predicted. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

A gorgeous sonnet! Inspires me to try one.

To grab this sword as life slowly moves on,

Time is a very strange thing. In the eyes of many it inches by, later on it speeds quickly by, no more than a light breeze and it's gone. In the eyes of many it speeds and then it inches. In the eyes .. more..
