SilenceA Poem by QuietStormWritten after it was discovered that a young man in New Jersey was stripped and beaten while people video tapped it for a $20 debt his father owed and viewed by over 40,000 before being reportedSilence
Silence is a vessel used to perpetuate the shameful atrocities going on around us today.
It is a means by which one can undeniably evade responsibility for himself, his brother, and his sister.
In more instances than not, silence is a reaction to fear. The fear of having to confront what is real - the fear of accountability. The fear of responsibility.
Silence allows us the deny what the eyes have seen and the ears have heard.
Just as the tongue is capable of delivering a mighty blow, silence can be a silent killer.
When our sister or our brother is hurting, we must be compelled to kill the silence and give way to the voice God has given us.
When my sister is hurting I will offer thoughtful and kind words to soothe her. When my brother is in pain, it is my voice that will act as medicine and comfort his soul. When my sister and brother are unable to speak for themselves, I will yell, "HELP!", from the lowest valley to the highest mountain top for them.
I am my brother's keeper. I am my sister's keeper. I will not allow fear to silence me, but my voice to silence the fear. © 2013 QuietStormAuthor's Note
