I found myself looking at everyone else and studying who they were.. But sometimes the people you need to study are the ones living right underneath your own roof...
I Love You With All My Heart..
I was standing in the grocery store
Waiting for my dad to come back..
I stood there staring at everyone
Just studying everyone’s
Emotions, culture, backgrounds
But most importantly
I was looking for happiness in their faces..
Not all had smiles or laughs..
A man and lady were talking
The lady walked toward me
The man told her to “take it easy”..
She said “oh, I’m trying”..
You could hear the sadness in her tone..
Then I moved onto this family of four,
They came from behind me
Two Brothers, Sister and Mother.
They were goofing off in the store
Like every parent; “knock it off and behave”
But at least I saw smiles from them..
I looked down a ways and saw
Mother, Father and Son
The reason I looked that way
Was because the Son was checking me out
He smiled at me and I smiled back
They started to walk my way
He looked again at me
But I looked away at this older couple
They were looking at steaks
The older woman asked her husband
If those kind were good, he notted.
Then there was my dad…
Walking back to where I was..
I was studying him like he was like the other people
I saw a man that is shopping for his family
That was still in his work uniform
He looked exhausted and tired..
I snapped back into reality
And saw him as my father
I smiled at him and he smiled back..
But the smile I saw was fake..
Oh, it hurt my heart so much..
I looked to the ground
Wishing my family and I could be happy..
We deserve to be..
Finally we were in line,
I ran into an old friend,
I haven’t talked to her over a year..
She asked how I was doing
And my lying words “I’m good”..
We said our goodbye’s
And helped my dad with the grocery’s
Came home and unloaded them..
Again, finding my brother useless
He never helps out with anything..
Got everything done
I had to be somewhere at 5pm..
So I left my dad
As I was walking out the door
I whispered to myself
“I love you with all of my heart”..
And got in my car and drove away..
Thanks for sharing your emotions as we all experience daily. We just never write it down and share with the world. AFter losing my wife I tell everyone (family & friends) that i love them when parting ways. This poem you created I hope impact the people who do not tell what they feel. They are missing out, it feels good to the spirit.
This was beautiful, sweet girl. Just remember to look your family in the face and TELL them that you love them with all of your heart. Maybe they need to hear it sometimes as much as you do. We never know when we won't be able to tell them again.Sure, we say, "I love you" but do we ever take their face in our hands and make them look us in the eyes and say "I love you with all of my heart"? Maybe that would bring the genuine, heartfelt smile that you are searching for in their faces. Maybe not but it should make your own heart smile that you are able to love them unconditionally, no matter what. That's what families do! Great story, my friend.
