Behind My Smile…

When I tell people

My boyfriend is in another state

They say, “Your taking it well”..

Its because of my smile

I hide all the pain inside..

Back when I got hurt

By my ex boyfriend

My loved ones knew about it

And they would say

“Your taking it well”..

Its my smile..

I hide behind it

When my best friends

Moved away to other states

People would say

“Your taking it well”..

When I am not,

Its my smile..

When my dad told me

He has to see a Cancer doctor

My mom looked at me with

“Your taking this well”..

It’s the smile I keep on my face..

I learned how to keep

All the sadness locked in me

Its harder than most will think..

Sooner or later it will burst

All the emotions and feelings

Will fall out of me

And all I will be able to do

Is cry in front of all the people I love

It’s the reason I don’t do now

To keep them strong

So they don’t see me hurting..

My heart is beautiful in ways I can’t explain

But right now its nothing but ugly inside..

I hide behind my smile

For my world to keep moving…

This is a beautifully sad peice, and one I can truelly appreciate, I also live this life.

Sometimes it is our preference to save others from our hurt than to release it.

I fear the day my heart explodes.

Good luck in my competition.

This was a very nice write. I hope you continue to use your poetry as an outlet. Do not damaged your soul by holding at that stress inside. Beside health related issuse it will also cause you to put your pen and pad down. Then we are will suffer. Thanks for the read request. If you have not already check out my poem "White Wine & Footies" I would love to know what you think of it.

It's always a sad thing to lose someone, even more sad when you have to watch it in unroll in front of you like some horrible play that you just can't turn away from.

Keeping it all in is a bad thing, I should know I have been through all this before. my father died of cancer not too long ago.

This was a truly sad poem, because of how it makes me feel when you keep it in. You always have someone to talk to in your b/f or your mom or even your sisters. All you have to do it try.

Ah, Kylie . . . this is a sad yet lovely poem. Full of truth and bravery, for letting your words flow from the smile to the keyboard.

From someone who always faced everything, no matter how tragic, with a smile, I can assure you that it won't last forever. With time, you will allow your true feelings to show, albeit, with even a frown (gasp!). It's okay not to pretend that everything is okay. As humans, we often think we must portray a certain image that conforms to what society deems "normal". But, it does catch up with us, sooner or later.

I adore the language you use throughout your work. Your writing is universal and could reach thousands, if not millions, with the messages you bring.

Brava, sweetheart!

A person will only know what you let them...fake a smile they'll believe ur ok, so true!

Your a good person kylie, but this hiding is hurting you...I do understand that you'd rather keep it locked up so not to worry no one, but perhaps you could let it out in the comfort of your own room.

best wishes and support,
:) elyssa

....Your heart is anything but ugly. You are a very strong person, and I hope that when the dam bursts the ones you love will realize its their turn to be strong for you, and that you may finally have some of your burden lifted. One day you won't have to hide, but till then keep indomintable...
