Every 15 Minutes

Every 15 Minutes

A Poem by QuietPoet
"

I wrote this when I was a senior in High School back in 2007.. It hit me pretty hard and this is why I dont drink much and I will never drive drunk..

"
Every 15 Minutes
On a windy, cold, rainy day
Every 15 minutes during the school day police officers took out fellow students
Juniors and Seniors gathered on 4/12/07
To watch a pretend drunk driving accident
We sat watching our friends all bloody
We watched one fly away in a helicopter
We sat there watching, tears in eyes, cold wind blowing
The next day we gathered again for an explanation
They told our fellow students to come out
They put roses in a coffin
The officer gave his speech
A lady came up next to give her sad story about her son’s
One died the other is mentally ill because of an accident
The mother was in deep tears, my heart sank..
Next they called the guy that was pretending to be the drunk driver
They chose him to read his goodbye letter out loud to his parents and to all of us
The first thing he said was “this is going to be hard”, he started crying
My heart fell for him, tears formed
While he was reading, all I thought about were my parents
How I didn’t say “I love you” or hugged them before I left
We all come and go, never hug and say
The ceremony effected a lot of students that day
Maybe even changed some into better people
One day we will look back on this and thank our school for this
Every 15 minutes someone dies or is serious injured from a drunk driving accident in the US
IT could be anyone, Don’t let it be you…
