We're Pegged Together

We're Pegged Together

A Poem by Querida

is this where we end up?

of course it is, honey

with smudged lipstick

and scuffled clothing

ha, how romantic

aren't we sweet?

in your boy-messy room

on your unmade bed

innocence stays too long

you're just a coward

and you don't even bother

to kiss me goodbye

keep up that act

fake that nothing happened

when i've got your lips

imprinted on my flesh

semi-formal is coming up

every teen girl's fantasy

aren't we lucky

we're pegged together

my friends, your friends

think we'd be a cute couple

too bad they never saw

your wandering hands

i can't afford to trust

so i'm avoiding you

with half-answered looks

lingering in the air

i wonder if you realize

that all i really want

is to be with you

in your arms

with you.
