Look to your SisterA Poem by QueridaI could start a poem Create words of peotic tune Clip together stanzas Steal bits from lives in view I could write a story Solemn to the core Sending silent tears Dripping to the floor I could sing a song With joyful melody Throw down random lyrics Mess up the harmony But none of that would alter The way that falls the rain Nor the fact that dreamers Dream dreams of prayer for change It’s an age-old line Overused beyond the rest That someday in the future It’ll all turn for the best Just do me one small favor While you’re so far away Don’t forget your small-town roots And those you leave to stay I don’t speak of myself But your sister dear Who, even as I write Has eyes so full of fear I write what I can’t say The words beneath this peel Her love for you is amazing So palpable, so real So don’t just walk away To face the future on your own Because nothing bonds so closely As the ties of blood and bone. © 2008 Querida |
