Xanadu

Xanadu

A Poem by Quentin Eugene

A little girl named Xanadu
With little fingers, little toes,
And beautiful eyes like you.

Pink and beautiful little lips
That mimic what you say-
Repeating incorrectly with a lisp.

Light hair that falls in curls
Just along her ears-
Did I tell you I love the idea?

Of a little girl just like you?
Not a single thing like me.
A beautiful little girl-

As perfect as perfect could be.

I wish that I could tell you now,
But I'm afraid it's too late.
This dream will be kept locked-
It will be kept locked far away.

Where memories are only memories-
And proves the sad truth that they fade-

I wish I could tell you
Just how beautiful that I see
Our beautiful little Xanadu-
As beautiful as she could be.

But I'm afraid that I lost you too soon-
Too soon for me to say
That our little girl will be perfect.

She would have been as perfect as you are to me-
A little girl in a little world-
As perfect as perfect could be.

Little nose and bright eyed
Just as you always imagined she would be.
A perfect little girl that I had hoped
Would be blessed to you and me.
