Perfect Solitude

Perfect Solitude

A Poem by MadScientist

Reading a book by dim light
Wrapped up in comfort;
Drumming patter of rain
Only breathing moment in that beat of time
Exploring the world beneath
Ink with my mind as the guide.

Perfect Solitude.

The throbbing of my heart and voice
Careful but methodical
Beat of my footfalls in the dead of night.
Bathed in orange of the hooded pathways
As the cold damp and frost tipped fingers of winter clamp tight,
The dreary City of Knives shivers and yet I smile
I feel brave.

Perfect Solitude.

My acquaintances are my thoughts; dreams, my fears and burning hope.
My mind.
Still the rushing demands of crowds-
Faceless souls with Voices but they huddle.
I, a passer-by stand in the shadows and watch alone but content.
Unnoticed however.
I'm  misjudged and feared yet I feel nothing for that .
I feel the maelstrom  of pain and sorrow; rage and hurt
I also feel powerful hope and love.

So I ask of you, if you too share these thoughts what is

Your Perfect Solitude?

I relate so much to this!
"My acquaintances are my thoughts; dreams, my fears and burning hope.
My mind."
I really loved these two lines. Definitely my favorites. I really liked the repetition and the topic. I feel like it will make everyone think, especially because of the question at the end. I loved the poem so much!

I could relate to this very well. Sometimes solitude is just so blissful; it's just you alone with your thoughts, free to do/think whatever you want to. I think you conveyed that message very well in this. The imagery was amazing and so vivid that I'm sure that even someone who doesn't like solitude could relate to it. Well done.

I've read a number of poems lately about "solitude" but yours is most original & complete, as you paint us the pictures in this experience of being alone, reading, & living inside the stories being read. I like the way this message is packed with examples of how reading can carry one away into a world that is not one bit about "being alone" . . . such a world is filled with characters . . . yet, I also very much relate to the way this is "perfect solitude" (I'm not as much of a reader as this narrator, but I just prefer solitude . . . I don't think it's about "being alone" as much as some people do). Lovely way to show instead of telling.
