I used to be the mean girl, the one who would shame and ridicule. The ones without, were not cool, and were left out. I would laugh and point at otherholey clothes or shoes, and doubt what they could do. My life was just as bad as theirs, so no matter how nice I looked, who was I to make fun of their hair. No amount of clothing price dictates someone’s feelings and worth, and the truth is my words made them feel worse. Now that I am a mom myself, I always make sure my boys see the beauty in everyone else. Don’t judge by hair, friends, or clothes, instead offer them a friend and keep them close. Bullies are struggling people themselves, and if you don’t stand up who will?
Yes, we learn to teach our kids to not repeat our own mistakes! As a teacher, I tried, unsuccessfully, recently, to tell a group of girls not to hit each other when they had disagreements.....the ring leader came to me, shaking her head, and said, with slight disgust, "But that is the only language they understand!"
It is hard, but we will never give up! Delightful read....though, I think it could be expanded to become a short story....maybe a memory of an incident?
