Chapter #4 - Undesired FatesA Chapter by Bryanna - QueenStephniMathieu continued to use small amounts of demonic energy around Alexandria during the first three days of the winter. He kept getting weird looks from Isabelle and was being told in quiet to lay off and leave Alexandria alone. He knew that what he was doing was having some effect because of what he heard the night before. Replaying what Alexandria whimpered in her sleep over in his head made him believe that a few more days and she should have some, if not all of her power back. Looking over his shoulder he watched as Isabelle showed Alexandria how to carefully slice potatoes and carrots. Sighing he know that once she was better he would have to explain cause she would notice the residue and ask. Deciding that maybe tonight would be the night he would tell them he had spent as much time outside doing chores as he could. “ Mathieu could you quickly go and get a couple more potatoes please.” Isabelle asked breaking through his thoughts. “ Umm, yeah okay.” He answered walking out the door. Outside was freezing but he didn’t mind. He heard the door open behind him but kept walking. “ Wait up.” He heard Demascus called but he totally ignored him. He listened, as Demascus’s footfalls got closer. Suddenly he was turned around and was suddenly face to face with Demascus. “Why are you doing that to her. You know she’s freaked out as it is and knowing that you’re doing some demonic crap around her, only freaks her out more. She needs to be calm and relaxed to gain her powers back and you know that as well as I do.” Demascus carefully said. Mathieu looked away. He had hoped to tell them together but it looked like fate had pushed his hand. Before he could answer, Demascus’s fist was flying through his jaw. Placing him square on his butt. Looking at Demascus, Mathieu knew that if they were alone and there weren’t any witnesses, he would be clobbered. Demascus looked like he was going to hit him again until they both heard the back door slam shut. “What are you two doing?” Alexandria asked while looking at both of them with innocent eyes. Looking her up and down neither boy answered. They could see a fine white shimmer light around her. They both knew that Isabelle wouldn’t see it but they knew that it belonged. Mathieu smiled then winced. His plan had worked but he had paid the price, his jaw ached like hell and would for days to come. Alexandria tapped her foot lightly on the ground and waited for one of them to answer. “You look a lot better. How do you feel?” Demascus asked with a shocked look still evident on his face. “I feel fine and am fine but I still don’t know why Mathieu’s on his butt in the mud and you looked shocked.” Alexandria said very parentally. “I’ve been using small amounts of energy while your powers were gone to try and get them to respond. They obviously did because you have them back but I was going to tell you both tonight but as you can see it got out of hand. I’m sorry but I was so worried and I didn’t know what else to do. I thought that your powers would react because you’re an angel and we’re demons. Natural enemies. Your power would shield you from our harms and I knew that they would respond. I don’t know why but I just know. Again I’m sorry.” Mathieu blabbered quickly. After he finished, he got to his feet and walked into the dark night. Alexandria started to walk after him but was stopped by Demascus. “He needs time alone.” He said, walking towards the vegetable garden. Picking the potatoes from the garden Demascus walked Alexandria back to the house. Elsewhere, Mathieu was sitting alone thinking about what he had done and that Alexandria might never trust him again. He didn’t hear the officer walk up behind him or feel the officer knock him over the head. There was a loud knock on the front door about twenty minutes after the confrontation between Demascus and Mathieu. Alexandria opened the door slightly to see Mathieu in the arms of an official looking person. Opening the door wide she let him in. Isabelle felt the cold breeze and turned to see Julian holding Mathieu. The sight made her turn white. “What happened?” Alexandria asked quietly. Julian shrugged and almost dropped Mathieu. “Please bring him in here. I’ll need to tend to his wounds.” Isabelle said as she got a fresh bowl of warm water, antiseptic and some cloths. While Alexandria lead the way into the bedroom. She showed Julian where to place Mathieu then lead Julian out and offered him a drink. “No thanks. I found your friend in the creek not too far from here. There were many small wounds but the main concern was the head injury. I hope he survives. I bid you all a hopefully good night and tell Ms Isabelle that if she needs help or medical supplies to not hesitate to ask. Night.” With that Julian walked out and shut the door behind him. Alexandria and Demascus both heard a groan from their bedroom. Running into the room both saw Mathieu holding his head and waving Isabelle away. “I’ll be fine. Its shallow and I am a demon after all. I’ll heal in no time.” Mathieu argued but Isabelle wouldn’t hear it. She fought him. But he managed to hold her at bay. Demascus went to help. He told Isabelle that Mathieu was right and that if he passed out again she could get him then. She smiled and walked out. Alexandria walked up to him and inspected to wound herself. “Isabelle should put some antiseptic on it at least. It would do some good because there’s already an infection starting and it would be bad if you got really sick.” Alexandria said as she walked out to get Isabelle. When Isabelle returned with Alexandria, Mathieu looked asleep but the look on Demascus’s face told a different story. “You didn’t hit him, did you?” Isabelle asked knowing that Mathieu was again unconscious. Shaking his head, Demascus didn’t go into detail but just told her that Mathieu was going to argue again and it was bothersome. © 2010 Bryanna - QueenStephni |
