The Window ShopperA Poem by QueWoken up by the outside noise Still tired and sleepy He opens his eyes on a new day Puts on his worn out smile And a scruffy coat of good mood For the lonely day is cold Looks out the window The weather is as usual Winds of people in suits Clouds of blank looks Drops of angry faces and car horns “Where to go today? What to do?” He sets out, looking for adventure Amazed by the world, and its potential Eyes ahead, looking at every detail Seeking his chance Looking for a fading cloud His head held high Curiosity in his eyes Strangers to his left Unknowns to his right In the crowd a familiar face Nods a hello and keeps on Through the glass, he sees himself His head as if he wears those clothes He drifts away, his mind afloat He’s somewhere else, he’d never been A house, a family and all he needs Feels at peace... Then shook back By the hail of noise of what surrounds Forward he goes, and doesn’t look back Eyes forward, his smile still wide A ray of sun shines ahead! The park is there, with a bench to spare He grabs a seat, and looks around The colors of groups, the warmth of laughs He takes it in, as a scarf of hope That fits along his scruffy coat On the way back The winds blow more It’s not like this morning With suits and blank looks The noise is anew… But that of laughter and songs Of families and friends That flow quite strong He holds his scarf tight Pushes his way through Is it time to go home? Rather nowhere else to be Heads back to where he is alone Dusts off his smile and hangs his coat For tomorrow is another day But the forecast is unknown © 2019 QueAuthor's Note
