Gate the WallA Poem by Que“Sometimes our walls exist just to see who has the strength to knock
them down.”
― Darnell Lamont Walker Brick by brick as time passes by Stacked next to each other Layer by layer the wall grows high Once in place, start another Build it around And hide in its shade Remain ‘safely’ bound Hoping for intrusions to fade No one else is allowed through For that is your secure base A boundary that you drew To just have your safe space Too scared to let someone inside And tear through that wall For they may just set you aside And your fort, to pieces will fall Then the wall is back up again More layers, less intrusions Back in a shelter you return And discard further delusions In belief that it makes you weak To allow people to cross Thinking that havoc will wreak We try to limit our loss Losing the one you let in Is not the end of the world as whole So lift up your chin For you are the one in control People always come and go It should not be a fear Let them across, don’t say no And allow others to be near Make the best of your time With whoever is there Allow your soul to reach its prime And that only happens when you share Give your wall a gate And show people the way As you can’t control fate Or who will leave or stay Some people are on the other end Waiting for a chance to make it Those are the ones worth the bend And are usually your perfect fit Don’t leave them out in the cold Let their warm souls cover your own Open yourself up and unfold And stop surrounding yourself with stone Sounds easier said than done But it is worth the shot Better a wall with a gate than none So go for it and loosen that knot Don’t let your guard down Yet also don’t be scared Try to avoid your frown And let your spirit be repaired
