All the
dragons I’ve slain have been mirages
to myself - when hot-headed I fought wars
to calm maelstrom thoughts before I sank:
Bought and sold by bronze and brawn,
Sought to plunder heartlands not my own
and lay siege to damnations, to sacrifice
lambs as savior from Bael’s claws, to confess
to the Spanish cloister I have drawn
lines in blood against my brothers.
All the dragons I’ve slain have been mirages
to myself.

That is an image from the internet, I'm not nearly that talented. (:
Sounds to me like a person that is at war with themself, struggling to be comfortable in their own skin. This can be due to mental disorder, additiction, harship, or really just the persons environment in general. The person is trying to quell the monster within before it affects others but is failing to do so. Kinda sounds like me. Every person is fighting a battle, some just aren't as good at hiding it. Reminds me of a quote by Stephen King about monsters being real but only inside people and that sometimes those monsters win. This may not seem finished to you, but I think it sums the theme up perfectly. Any more you add will be Bonuses.

I suppose I feel like this sometimes, I definitely have flaws that would be easier to live without, but then who doesn't? I think I pressure myself sometimes into being a hero though, like Saint George, when really, naturally, I'm not always a good person. And that makes me a hypocrite . . . I don't know. Life is complicated so . . .

Even in the ranks of those deemed evil there are heroes, such as some Nazis in WW2 who went against the system. And then there were some villains on the allies side. Just be your self and do what you think is right. Being a hero doesn't have to include saving lives, sometimes just the right words or action at the right time no matter how seemingly small can alter the course of a life or many for the better (or worse). Often times, a person doesn't realize that they are a hero to someone. After all, how could you possibly see through another person's eyes from where they stand? Something you see as a trivial act could mean the world to a person. But you may never know it unless they told you. Again, just be yourself.
