The last judgement

The last judgement

A Poem by Quaddeth
"

Inspired by Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel work. The renaissance man. This story serves as a reminder to all artists that we must continue to express artisitic freedom in the midst of oppression.

"

Forty years of blisters amounting to worlds end

The creation of man starting life from a pen

Julius clapped his b*****d Holy hands,

The Elitists beckoned Amen,

Buonarroti set up his stands

Work began then.

Julius’ power became apparent, a newly appointed leader.

The fortunate few who avoided his wraith, named him the ‘Holy Warrior’,

He needed an alibi, a justification of his cause,

So he commissioned Buonarroti, 12 apostles against a starry night,

the perfect moral barrier.

But Buonarroti being the man he is, wanted to bend the laws,

So he drew what was in his hearth, without a seconds pause

Clichéd wasn’t in his nature,

So creation Buonarroti was to capture

But honesty was another of his traits,

So he painted the downfall of man in all its rapture

Also he painted a collection of saints

In a perfect, honest, apocalyptic picture.

Buonarroti’s soul drained,

As Julius’ exponent power reigned

Saint Bartholomew’s shed skin held its creators face,

A bothered oppressed pain, Buonarroti was restrained.

Author's Note

We should all feel inferior to someone, its inspiring to know even the greatest of the great follow the philosophy also. Michaelangelo was instructed to carry out an order by a corrupted Pope, he did so but let his artistic power flow, painting pictures of honesty and highlighting his own faith.

I absolutely love the first stanza. To me, every line rhymed but made perfectly good sense. The poem overall was enjoyable, it told a story and that's what I love most about this piece. Poems that tell a story about history or anything else that isn't personal, is interesting to read. Good job.

Even as someone not of the Christian or Catholic faith, I love the mythical way you told this story. It's lovely

A amazing poem. Great words with some history make a powerful poem. The artist of old were more appreciated then today. We could use more great artwork and writers of great words in this world today. I like the logic of the poem. A outstanding poem.
