![]() When I First Read the BibleA Poem by Quad7When I First Read the Bible When I was a child I decided to think awhile One ideas that I had taken From a book that had my mind awaken On realms beyond black and white Theories not seen within normal sight Philosophies that perplexed my mind Answers that nobody could find With questions that hurt my head Quotes important people had said And at the end of that long book When I needed not take another look I was left with more than lesson But only just one question. And when I grew into a man at last I left those childish objects in the past And found a different path to follow A way that was lifeless and solemnly hollow Filled with unintentional greed hate And by and by selfishness didn’t abate And sadly enough my saving grace Was the falling of my mothers beautiful face Her body lay at deaths front door Her countenance dropping to more and more poor And when her chest could no longer heave Her few last words were simply “Believe” And what follow I have kept with me to this very day Her body so fragile but said in such a bold way “You know I love you and your father did too, But please remember Your Father above doesn’t want to lose you So please follow Him and see it all the way through, And again you should know that I will always love you” I believe her eyes were closed before she said the last words And that night I could see so many different birds, Under a blanket filled with a myriad of stars And I remembered a verse that I had read behind bars Proclaiming that I was one of those stars And the childhood question that lay in the past afar Came back that day and made me fall to my knees, The simple question “Why does he so desperately love me” © 2016 Quad7 |
