For you.A Poem by QCMy heart is hammering in my chest; A jackhammer brought to life By the inevitable spark of electricity. My palms are sweaty just looking at you. Your eyes, pale grey in the blinding sun Watch me as if you had x-ray vision. I feel naked. Your gaze seems to seep through my entire being And straight into my soul, I cannot speak. It seems you’ve tied my tongue In the tightest constrictor knot you could manage Without even knowing it. I could say your smile is like the sun Or a rainbow Or like springtime, But I think I’ll settle for contagious. Because I can’t look at you and not smile, It’s impossible. I am so nervous. But I push it aside. And as my heart is beating a hole through my chest, And as my palms sweat a small puddle, And as my tongue ties tighter against itself, I ask the question that’s been on my mind for weeks: “Will you be my valentine?” © 2011 QCReviews
