Viva

Viva

A Poem by Natalie Mark
"

Poem I wrote for SLO Writing Contest.

"
Viva
What breathes must also die "
what withers must also grow "
and through the misty meadows, snow "
I find my path a lit, a glow "
and follow it wherever I go.
And though it might lead over tall mountains "
sheer cliffs, and frigid snow "
I know it's where I'm meant to go "
with the knowledge I have learned "
and all the love that I have known.
But the world is not so perfect "
if you look at it in pieces.
All around us people fighting "
even when the battles done "
no one's really winning.
But if you want to start a revolution "
if you want to make a change "
then you have to do some evolution "
your strategies you must rearrange.
A wise person is a curio of the world "
someone who listens will never be missing the beauty of the world.
Listen to the sounds of the world spinning around "
listen to the beat of empty hearts "
hear the dreams, bound and gagged call out "
"You're tearing us apart!".
Of wounded, haunted minds "
empty chairs at empty tables "
of finding unwanted things "
lost prayers and ancient fables.
"Viva", I said."Long live the dead!"
